MAKING YOUR OWN TI-99 CARTRIDGE

01/08/2000: Are you aware of anyone that sells cartridge burners for the TI-99/4A? Not speaking of copying existing carts, I mean taking software you've written and burning it onto our your cart... Just scouring for advice. Thanks, Greg Lamb greg@linuxbin.com

01/09/2000: Making a custom cartridge with your own program in it can be done without a lot of trouble. However, there are a couple of things that you will need to get started. First, you will need an appropriate PC board to use. Next, a cartridge case, and finally an eprommer and a supply of 2764 chips. The cartridge boards are the most difficult to find. I was able to find several at a TI Fair some years ago. They are marked SK800805. They require some modification with a 28-pin socket soldered on board and a resistor and a couple of jumper wires. Larry Conner had some but I don't know if he still does. The cartridge covers can be salvaged from an existing cartridge are purchased from a TI vendor. The crucial part of the process is an eprommer and some 2764 chips. I use one constructed by the HV99'ers UG. There are instructions for its construction in one of their newsletters. I have the code for a GPL header which is assembled and saved into memory (it is >34 bytes long). The program image files is then saved to memory immediately after the header and the whole lot is burned into the eprom. I have been able to successfully use this method to put Funnelweb, Archiver Vn 3.03, and Several other 8K programs into a cartridge. The eprommer is also great for duplicating various DSRs and other files. Bob Carmany rmcarmany@aol.com
